Text Box: REINFORCED CONCRETE SERVICES

Reinforced concrete structures can also be protected using cathodic protection. Testing can be performed using a copper/copper sulfate half-cell reference electrode to determine the corrosive areas. If necessary, cathodic protection can then be applied to provide corrosion protection using a properly design impressed current anode system.

Higher levels of chlorides can further increase the corrosion levels especially near salt-water structures. These levels should be measured in order to design the best protection system.

To provide additional protection zinc metallizing can performed directly on the concrete to increase the corrosion protection especially in highly corrosive environments such as salt water.
