Text Box: WATER MAIN SERVICES   Corrosion of watermains poses a constant challenge to small and large cities. Brouco provides specialized technical support for the construction of new watermains, or for existing watermains, by providing integrity verification to predict future service life and cathodic protection engineering to minimize watermain corrosion. Not all pipe are affected in the same way by corrosive soils and not all pipe materials fail in the same manner. Some pipes will fail by localized small holes such ductile or steel pipes, while some might fail in a rather sudden rupture as is often the case for AWWA C-301 Pre-stressed Concrete Cylinder Pipes (PCCP). The selection of a specific pipe material and corrosion protection methods for a new large diameter watermain will greatly depend on the soil properties, life expectation requirement, and location, etc. Brouco provides detailed soil analysis ranking through soil sampling, chemical analysis and in-situ resistivity measurements. At crossings with oil and gas pipelines, or in urban areas with electrified surface rail transit, we can assess the corrosion risks and will recommend the appropriate corrosion protection approach. Our services include cathodic protection design, materials and coating selection, installation inspection, coating inspection, commissioning testing, pipe to soil potential surveys, soil testing, & service life predictions. For existing watermains, we frequently undertake integrity verification through a combination of information review, soil testing, pipe potential measurements, and direct assessment integrity digs.
