Text Box: SPECIALIZED CORROSION SURVEYS

PIPE TO SOIL HALF CELL POTENTIAL SURVEY
This survey has two main purposes:
To determine the corrosion status of a piping prior to any corrosion protection.
To determine the effectiveness of the cathodic protection system after installation.
The survey is completed by measuring the pipe to soil potential using a copper/copper sulfate half cell reference electrode.

DIRECT CURRENT VOLTAGE GRADIENT (DCVG) SURVEY
The DCVG survey is a method of surveying which maps small current changes in the pipeline indicating coating defects. These coating defects can then be repaired to extend the life of the pipeline.

DYNAMIC STRAY CURRENTS
Since stray currents can be very dangerous, it’s important to evaluate the level of foreign currents entering or exiting the pipeline. For every 1 Amp of anodic DC current, 20 lbs (9kg) of iron can be consumed per year. Using a combination of pipe to soil measurements and various fixed references with data loggers we can determine the extent of the dynamic stray currents and provide recommendations.
